If you’re low-key obsessed with your dog, and take your four-legged lover everywhere you go, then we have some good news for you. There’s a new dog-friendly movie theater — allegedly, the first one ever — that just opened in Plano, and it will prevent any separation anxiety from your furry sidekick. Of course, it will also keep you from going to the movies totally solo if you’re living that #SingleLife.
K9 Cinemas is the creation of Eric Lankford, an under-30 entrepreneur who relocated to the Dallas area from Indianapolis. He actually has his own dog, Bear, to thank for the inspiration behind this genius idea that gives man and man’s best friend a new way to get out and have some fun. Because dog parks are sooo last year.
A small caveat: You won’t exactly be seeing the latest blockbuster releases here. K9 is currently in more of a start-up mode and just screening older faves and themed flicks. But, that’s a small price to pay when you can sit back and cuddle up with your canine while meeting and greeting all the other dogs in the house.
After all, with doga (that’s yoga with your dog, FYI), beer pup-crawls, pooch parades, and Fido photos with Santa — which are especially important this time of year — it was only a matter of time before a movie theater for you and your four-legged best friend opened.
And, whether your cute plus-one is a pint-sized, pocket pup or a Great Pyrenees, K9 doesn’t discriminate. There are only three “doggone” rules you (and your dog) have to play by: Clean up after your pet; provide valid papers from your pet’s vet; and don’t bring more than two dogs per human.
Oh, and there’s a totally Instagrammable photo opp for you and your doggie, too. Don’t miss that, because, did you really go on a movie date with your dog if you didn’t post it?!
Upcoming holiday screenings include multiple showtimes of Home Alone on December 21 and Elf on December 26. Tickets are currently $12.50 for adults, $9 for children under 12, and $5 for pups.
