Summer is a time to have fun and explore the best spots around! While a lot of places around downtown Dallas have tons of amazing events going on, sometimes getting out of the big city and exploring your state is the best thing to do. Here are a few places in North Texas you can take day trips to or camp at for an unbeatable summer.

Why you need to go: The Denton Square has tons of awesome shops including a candy store with tons of wild creations and plenty of restaurants and bars for a fun day out.
Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Why you need to go: This state park has amazing views and tons of trails that are perfect to hike on. You can also spend the night to soak up all the breathtaking views for just $12.

Why you need to go: Lake Tawakoni is a great place for a swim or to go fishing. The park also has 376 acres of oak wood forest, making it a shady spot for a day out or a picnic.
Dinosaur Valley State Park

Why you need to go: When you're feeling extra adventurous you can hop on over to Dinosaur Valley State Park to see where real life dinos used to live. You'll feel like you're in an adventure movie with giant dino statues and real dino prints in the lake.

Why you need to go: This hidden water park is so much fun! They have a variety of slides and rides including a trapeze swing you can have the best time on.
Lavender Ridge Farms

Why you need to go: The farm is a beautiful place to visit. They have a cafe where you can get natural and lavender flavored treats and at times you can even pick your own lavender bouquet.
Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary
Address: 1 Nature Place in McKinney, Texas
Why you need to go: This museum is unlike any other. They have ziplining and dinosaurs spread out with tons of outdoor activities that are just too fun to pass up. (North Texas loves its dinosaurs!)
Tyler Rose Garden

Why you need to go: This garden is absolutely beautiful and it's totally free to visit. It's also the largest rose garden in the entire nation.
Grapevine Vintage Railroad
Address: 636 S. Main St, Grapevine, TX 76051
Why you need to go: You can travel as they did in the early times by riding the cute vintage train all over downtown Grapevine. They even have wine trains!
Munster Mansion Tour

Why you need to go: Who says summertime can't be spooky? You can visit and tour the Munster Mansion - a replica of the one used in the 60s sitcom.
No matter where you go in North Texas, you're bound to have a total blast. The state is proud to be the home of some of the coolest natural wonders, beautiful gardens, exciting theme parks, and apparently, tons of dinosaurs. Have a good summer!
